While the film certainly has a divisive reputation, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice still manages to get eyeballs, and it’s premiere showing made a strong impression on HBO.
The superhero brawler came in fourth in the ratings for Saturday, November 26, only ranking behind ESPN’s coverage of college football. Batman v Superman aired at 8 P.M. and brought in 2.33 million total viewers with a 0.9 in the 18 to 48 rating. It will start to roll out to On Demand and HBO GO over the next few weeks, and of course, you can get the Ultimate Edition for more footage that never made it into the theatrical release.
Up next for DC Films is the anticipated Justice League, which many hope will correct some of the missteps of Batman v Superman. You can find the official description for the film below.
Warner Bros.’ Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice might come up $3.7M million short of breaking even in its global theatrical run. However, the first title in DC features 2.0., which was blasted by critics with a 29% Rotten score and given a B CinemaScore from audiences, likely will turn a minimum profit of $207.9M once all revenue streams are accounted. Warner Bros provided no comment about BvS projections. Financial analysts today assembled a bare-minimum projection for the Zack Snyder movie, which is projected to turn in a domestic B.O. of $375M (2.25 times its $166M FSS) and a global take of $925M.
“Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” steamrolled past records, debuting to a gargantuan $170.1 million over Easter weekend despite being pilloried by critics. That ranks as the top opening weekend for a DC Comics film, the best March launch ever and the sixth-biggest domestic opening weekend of all-time.
It’s a shot in the arm for Warner Bros., which has been reeling from a series of costly bombs such as “Jupiter Ascending” and “Pan,” and is looking to the Dark Knight and Man of Steel throw down to kick off a series of inter-connected comic-book franchises. Warner Bros. has already announced release dates for sequels and spinoffs for the next five years, with the first of these superhero adventures, “Suicide Squad,” coming out in August.
