Chinese Women’s Volleyball Team Departs for 2016 Rio Olympics
Chinese women’s national volleyball team left for 2016 Rio Olympics on Friday from Beijing.
The players enjoyed a warm send-off from friends, family and fans, with several people trying to get photos with the ladies before they got on the bus heading to the airport.
The city of Rio will host the 2016 Olympics next Friday. Athletes from across the globe are now making their way to Brazil. The Chinese women’s national volleyball team goes into the Games as World Cup winners of the tournament held last year in Japan, and they are eyeing another success in South America.
Head coach Lang Ping was not at the send-off; instead she chose to meet her squad at the airport. The team’s opening match will be on a day after the opening ceremony on Aug. 6 against the Netherlands.
“I’m very excited because I’ve been waiting so long for the Olympics. It’s not easy to overcome injuries. Now I have the chance to compete at my third Olympics for my country. I am very excited. I’ll try my best in Rio,” said Xu Yunli, middle hitter of Chinese women’s volleyball team.
