Jimmy Kimmel forgot to tell two very important people about his newly announced commitment to host the 2017 Oscars: his parents!
The Jimmy Kimmel Live! host revealed to Entertainment Tonight that informing his mom and dad prior to telling the public about the gig slipped his mind. Whoops.
“I forgot to tell my parents, and then they found out online,” Kimmel, 49, told ET. “So, that’s probably the best feedback I got.”
The late-night host announced Monday on Twitter that he will be taking the reins as host of the Academy Awards on Feb. 26. “Yes, I am hosting the Oscars. This is not a prank. And if it is, my revenge on @TheAcademy will be terrible & sweet.”
Hours after he revealed that he will be taking the stage at the Oscars, the ABC host made another exciting announcement on Live!: he’s going to be a dad — for the fourth time!
“Also, my wife, is hosting a baby inside her body. So that’s what’s coming,” Kimmel told audiences about his wife, Molly McNearney, being pregnant with their second child (he has two children from his first marriage).
“We got the ultrasound — which is weird because it’s like you’re already spying on the baby — but we asked the technician not to tell us whether we’re having a boy or a girl. Our plan is to let the child decide for itself,” Kimmel said. “We want that to be a surprise, but I have been trying to think of names that would work for a boy or girl. So far, I’ve come up with two: No. 1 Dyson after the vacuum or Gelatin with a J. No? That’s exactly what my wife said.”
He quipped, “So — there’s a lot of exciting stuff going on. Congratulations to me.
The 89th annual Academy Awards will broadcast live on ABC on Feb. 26, 2017.
