Day 3 at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games
7Another busy day in the pool

The medal events come fast and furious in the pool on 8 August. Beginning 10:21pm local time, the men are off in the 200m freestyle. China’s Yang Sun raced the fastest time in the heats. His performance of 1:44.63 puts him in the fast lane flanked by Japan’s Kosuke Hagino and the USA’s Conor Dwyer. Next up are two 100m backstroke events, beginning with the women’s and then the men’s final.
In the women’s race, Hungary’s Katinka Houssz will look to add a second gold medal to her Olympic Haul. The ‘Iron Lady’ recorded the second-fastest time in the heats. Her time of 58.94 was just a touch behind Kathleen Baker of the USA who qualified with the fastest time of 58.84. Those three events are followed by the women’s 100m breaststroke at 10:54pm. US swimmer Lilly King qualified with the fastest time.
